Prospect.1 attracted 42,000 visitors (89,000 total visits) and generated over $23 million in economic activity over the course of its eleven-week run (November 1, 2008 – January 18, 2009);
22,000 Prospect.1 attendees came from outside of New Orleans, spending over $13 million on hotels, restaurants, shopping, and entertainment;
3,000+ teachers and students attended Prospect.1 educational programs; Prospect.2 is anticipated to attract double the number of visitors and have an even greater economic and cultural impact.
Prospect.2 will include work by 62 artists from more than 20 countries – including 10 artists from New Orleans and 35 based in the U.S. – from diverse cultural, generational, and artistic backgrounds. Several artists will be commissioned to develop major new projects to premiere during the biennial.
Each participating artist will be provided with a dedicated exhibition space in one of 16-20 venues museums, art centers, and municipal spaces in the New Orleans metropolitan area.
Prospect New Orleans is organized by U.S. Biennial, Inc. a 501(c)(3) non-profit art organization. Prospect.2 is curated by Dan Cameron; Founder of U.S. Biennial, Inc.
Seed funding for Prospect New Orleans has been provided by Toby Devan Lewis. Support for Prospect.1 was provided by the Board of Directors of U.S. Biennial, Inc., The Annenberg Foundation, The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Bloomberg, The Getty Foundation, and the Prudential Foundation, among others. Funding for Prospect.2 is currently being sought from a variety of sources.
